COUNTER, a start-up founded by McKinsey alum Yaniv Neu-Ner, has raised $650K to build a Crypto exchange which never holds custody of tokens.

Investors include Lior Shiff (Former CEO of Product Madness), Yoav Ben-Ari (Former Google), Akin Babayagit (Former head of Facebook Audience Network) as well as several other angels.

Neu-Ner mentioned that the team wanted to create a crypto exchange that is 10X more secure than the existing exchanges while keeping the user experience familiar. The company name is a play on providing a ‘counter’ offer to the traditional exchange model.

The founding team includes, Navaho De Wet (formerly Regulatory Operations Specialist at Investec Bank), and Nikita Lesnikov (formerly Distributed Systems Engineer at Wargaming).

Neu-Ner commented: “We are the first Ethereum exchange to have an upgradable smart contract, putting us in a unique position to upgrade for scalability, cross-chain and offering other instruments (Futures, ERC721 or other financial instruments).  To the best of our knowledge, we are the most gas efficient non-custodial exchange on Ethereum.” he said.

The exchange is launching in March but has opened for early sign ups. The platform will offer fee free trading for life to 100 of its 1,000 users.

“Less than 1% of Crypto trading goes through secure non-custodial exchanges, since most of these either fail to provide instant trading or a familiar trading experience. Counter will offer both”

Hopefully this solution will put an end to users losing funds in exchange hacks and help traders sleep better at night.
